Thank you for supporting CCCOER at Open Education Global as we work together to make higher education a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and antiracist system. This year, we welcomed 19 new member institutions, many from Texas, resulting in a stronger and more diverse community of practice.
2022 has been a year of transition as the pandemic wound down and on-campus classes and activities became possible again. Many of our institutions have experienced enrollment gaps and loss of students, staff, and faculty. Students from underserved communities, the majority of whom attend community colleges, are struggling to return to school. We continue to believe that open education can transform our institutions fostering professionalism and empathy while empowering students to achieve their academic and career goals.

We hope that you have enjoyed our fall webinars organized and led by our Professional Development Committee headed by Dr. Shinta Hernandez, Montgomery College. The webinar topics were selected from member survey responses featuring many speakers from our own community. We welcome member ideas and participation in all our activities.
Last summer, our Equity Diversity Inclusion (EDI) Committee, previously led by Ursula Pike, Austin Community College, and Tonja Conerly, San Jacinto College, organized our second summer EDI book club where participants met online and over Zoom. The committee –now led by Andrea Scott, Salt Lake Community College, and Wayde Oshiro, Leeward Community College – is organizing for summer 2023. Interested book club facilitators receive free training and a copy of the selected book.

Another wonderful opportunity this year, the Regional Leaders of Open Education Network led by Dr. Karen Cangialosi, guided many current and aspiring Open Education leaders to deepen their understanding of open educational policies and practices to support underserved students. Developing and sharing their institutional strategic plans, the participants found new colleagues while they advanced open education initiatives to better serve their students.
At this time, we also express our gratitude and best wishes to Paul Stacey, our Executive Director since 2018, for his leadership at Open Education Global. We look forward to introducing Andreia Innamorata, our new Executive Director, who will be joining us at the January 26 All Members Meeting to share global perspectives on open education and hear from all of you about your vision for the future of open education.
