Meet Our New CCCOER Executive Council for 2023-24

We are pleased to announce the new 2023-24 CCCOER Executive Council. They have hit the ground running this summer: leading the 3rd annual EDI summer book club, writing blogs, and holding summer conversations on course marking while also reviewing the findings from our 2023 annual members survey in planning for the upcoming fall semester.  Please reach out and say hello to these amazing open education leaders who are serving our community.

President

Shinta Hernandez

Dr. Shinta Hernandez is the founding Dean of the Virtual Campus at Montgomery College, MD. She provides leadership support in virtual education, open education and open pedagogy, related faculty professional development, and the Digital Learning Center for students. 

The Executive Council supports its President and Executive Vice President in the continued implementation of the strategic plan, delivery of professional development opportunities and EDI activities, assessment of the research and impact of open education, enhanced communications, and increased membership.

Immediate Past President

Judith Sebesta

Dr. Judith Sebesta is the founder and principal at Sebesta Education Consulting LLC, assisting higher education institutions, organizations, and agencies with innovation and transformation to support student success.  She has spent over 25 years in higher education as faculty member, academic administrators, policymaker, analyst, researcher, and consultant.

Executive Vice President 

Marina Aminy, Ph.D.

Dr. Marina Aminy is the Executive Director of the California Virtual Campus, which promotes instructional technology and online education for the state’s 115 community colleges. She is a passionate supporter of OER and ZTC, and advocates for equity, access, and digital transformation in higher education.

The Executive Vice President supports the Executive Council with a review of the strategic plan and supports President Shinta Hernandez with all aspects of our global strategy to grow and promote OER (including opportunities for research/data, representing CCCOER at conference and public sessions, and promoting professional development for OER leadership).

Co-Vice Presidents of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee

Andrea Scott

Andrea Scott is the OER Coordinator for the Office of Learning Advancement and Co-Chair of the Open SLCC Advisory Committee at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her OER experience spans ten years in various roles. In her current role, she provides leadership and strategic direction, including overseeing program development, implementation, assessment, and expansion for Open SLCC.

Wayde Oshiro

Wayde Oshiro is the Interim Learning Commons and Library Coordinator at Leeward Community College in Pearl City, Hawaiʻi. Since 2015 he has served as a co-lead for the seven-campus University of Hawaiʻi Community Colleges System OER Initiative.

The EDI committee will be developing projects addressing equity, diversity, and inclusion. The EDI committee seeks ways to increase equity in the Open movement conducting workshops and other activities highlighting the intersections of EDI and OER.  They aim to increase the representation of marginalized educators and students in leadership positions. Members of the EDI Committee include Asantewa Dawson, Ted (Totsaporn) Intarabumrung, and Quill West.

Vice President of the Membership Committee

Deborah Baker, Ed.D.

Dr. Debbie Baker is an instructional designer and the OER Coordinator at the Maricopa Community Colleges District in Phoenix, Arizona. She is passionate about opening up teaching and learning experiences with open education.

The Membership Committee focuses on strategies for welcoming new members and sustaining engagement with existing members.

Vice President of Professional Development

Lori-Beth Larsen

Lori-Beth Larsen is a Reading, English, English for Academic Purposes, and Global Studies instructor at Central Lakes Community College in Brainerd, Minnesota and serves as the OER Faculty Lead. She is currently pursuing her Education Doctorate focusing on how open education is a conduit for more equitable, inclusive, and diverse teaching and learning.

The Professional Development Committee delivers focused professional learning that contributes to meaningful impact in teaching practice, access, opportunity gaps, and student success, establishes the framework for credentials of value that allows professionals to achieve recognition as creators and adopters of OER, and demonstrates impact of professional development in adoption, adaption of OER, and in policies and practices that support open education through surveys and other methods. The committee also includes Ryan McKinney, Beatrice Canales, Kimberlee Carter, and Stephanie Green. 

Vice President of The Research & Impact Committee

Michael LaMagna

Dr. Michael LaMagna is the Information Literacy Program and Library Services Coordinator and Professor of Library Services at Delaware County Community College. Michael works to facilitate research related to open educational resources and affordable course content.

The Research & Impact Committee shares updates on open educational research findings with members. Promote best practices for measuring the impact of open education on institutions and the students they serve.  Sunyeen Pai and Shagun Kaur are members of the Research and Impact Committee. 

Vice President of Communications

Gracie McDonough, CCCOER Exec Council

Gracie McDonough is an Instruction and Reference Librarian at The College of Southern Nevada and is a leader in the statewide OER movement. Gracie previously served as the Vice President of Communications and will be continuing her role. She updates the OER conference information and creates blog posts to share with the OER community. She has been working closely with the Membership Committee to help welcome new members to CCCOER and share about their work.
