A Message from the President of the CCCOER Executive Council

Greetings!
I hope the summer is treating you well. As I close out my two-year term as President of the CCCOER Executive Council, I am taking a moment to reflect on six deeply meaningful years of service and growth.
What began with my involvement on the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee six years ago evolved into a leadership role as Vice President of Professional Development, and ultimately, the honor of serving as President. Along the way, I have collaborated with inspiring colleagues throughout North America who are committed to advancing Open Education and equity across higher education institutions.
I was initially inspired to join the CCCOER Executive Council because I saw it as a community of changemakers. I was drawn to its mission of expanding access and equity through Open Education, and what has kept me engaged all these years was the collective energy of people who are truly committed to making a difference.
Together, we advanced equity, built community, and championed Open Education with purpose and heart. I am proud of the work we have accomplished and the leaders I have had the privilege to serve alongside.
This journey has been more than a leadership opportunity—it has been a mission-driven experience that has shaped how I lead, serve, and advocate for access, inclusion, and affordability in higher education.
To my fellow Executive Council members, CCCOER and OEGlobal leadership, and the broader Open Education community—thank you for your partnership and trust. I leave this role with deep gratitude and look forward to what is ahead for CCCOER and Open Education.
With sincere gratitude,
Shinta Hernandez, Ph.D.
President, CCCOER Executive Council
Dean of MC Online and Academic Support, Montgomery College
