Spring Quarterly All Members Meeting – April 16, 2024

It seems like just yesterday, but it’s been over a month since Open Education Week 2024, and it was time for a recap of the event, both of CCCOER events and all global events. Then a peak behind-the-scenes, this was followed by updates on presentation at online and virtual conferences CCCOER staff have been attending and the strategic planning process with a non-profit consultant that is underway. Lastly, we announce that the 1st of 3 blog posts on the Department of Education’s Cash Management Issue Paper, aka “negotiated rulemaking” and its potential effect on Inclusive and Equitable Access programs in the US.

Winter Quarter All Members Meeting – January 25, 2024

We started out the new year with remarks from the new CCCOER Program Director, Heather Blicher. We also heard from CCCOER Executive Council President, Shinta Hernandez, heard updates from all of the executive council committees, and looked at what the rest of 2024 has in store.

Member Mixer – December 6, 2023

In our 7th annual Member Mixer, the focus was on storytelling and attendees had an opportunity to share their open education stories and reflect on how we can “braid” them together with indigenous ways of knowing.

Summer Quarterly All Members’ Meeting – June 20, 2023

In the last meeting of 2022/23, we wrapped up the last year and looked forward to the next. We said goodbye to our outgoing executive council members and welcomed the new. Spring Quarterly All Members’ Meeting – March 28, 2023

This spring we have a plethora of events going on. Currently, CCCOER and OEGlobal are accepting nominations for their executive council and governing board, respectively. Also, both the Open Education Global and OpenEd conferences are accepting proposals. And with OEWeek 2023 behind us, CCCOER is busy planning for summer. We were joined by Robert Lawson from Norquest College to give an update on the upcoming Open Education Global Conference this October in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Lisa Young, OEGlobal Board Vice President updated us on the board elections.

Winter Quarterly All Members’ Meeting – January 26, 2023

We welcomed the new year and Open Education Global’s new Executive Director Andreia Inamorato. Andreia is a researcher, a teacher, and a champion for open education with over 16 years of experience working internationally with institutions in Latin America, Europe, the USA, and Africa. She shared some perspectives on OER from outside of the USA.

Member Mixer – December 1, 2022

Led by CCCOER’s Membership Committee, this year’s mixer featured a panel discussion with special guests:

  • Dr. Ronica Rooks – Professor in Health Behavior Science at the University of Colorado, Denver
  • Elizabeth Braatz and Kassidy Fegles-Jones – Graduate Students at Portland State University, RLOE Student Mentors, and are working on a project for RIOS (the Institute for Racially Just, Inclusive and Open STEM)

The panelists discussed the OER projects they have been involved with and what excited them about OER and Open Education. Then participants were invited to join breakout rooms to discuss issues raised in the panel.

Fall Quarterly All Members’ Meeting – September 1, 2022

To start off the new school year, we recapped CCCOER’s summer events and shared our plans for fall. Then attendees were put into breakout rooms to discuss:

  • What challenges are you facing right now in sustaining your Open Education programs?

Summer Quarterly All Members’ Meeting – June 22, 2022

We wrapped up the year by introducing the new members of the Executive Council, our new members in 2021-22, as well as going over the results of the 2022 CCCOER Member Survey. Looking forward we discussed our summer activities and made sure that members know that nominations for the Open Education Awards and the CFP for the Federal Open Textbook Grant 2022 are open.

Spring Quarterly All Members’ Meeting – March 30, 2022

After a quick recap of Open Education Week, Lisa Young, OEGlobal board member, as well as Co-chair of Open Maricopa, Faculty Director of Center for Teaching & Learning at Scottsdale Community College joined us to update CCCOER members on OEGlobal – the 5 new board members, Executive Director Paul Stacey’s decision to step down at the end of 2022, and updates on the Open Education Global Conference in Nantes this May. We then welcome all 14 new members – 11 of which are from Texas! Looking ahead, summer activities and the upcoming Executive Council Refresh this spring were discussed.

We started this meeting off with guest speakers Nicole Allen and Trudi Radtke from SPARC who spoke on inclusive access – what it is and where to find resources on InclusiveAccess.org to use to discuss it with others at your institutions. Also, Judith Sebesta, from DigiTex announce that they will be paying the annual membership dues for community colleges in Texas, up to 25!

Member Mixer – ‘Open’ During the Pandemic – December 2, 2021

Led by CCCOER Executive Council Membership VPs Cindy Domika and Joy Shoemate, the 5th annual member mixer’s theme was “Open During the Pandemic,” and featured a keynote by James Glapa-Grossklag, Dean of Educational Technology, Learning Resources, and Distance Learning at College of the Canyons. Members were also asked how the pandemic had changed the way Open is in their work, and how Open can continue to support students.

Fall Quarterly All Members’ Meeting – September 1, 2021

We started off by introducing the newest CCCOER member, the Network of Illinois Learning Resources in Community Colleges (NILRC), who join two other members from Illinois, and are now the lead for the new IL statewide consortium. Next, CCCOER Executive Council President Judith Sebesta lead a member shareout session where everyone was encouraged to share an example of completed, in progress, or planned work at their college/organization to support Open Pedagogy or Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Quarterly All Members’ Meeting – January 28th, 2021

For the first CCCOER meeting of 2021, we were joined by Angela DeBarger, Open Education Program Officer from the Hewlett Foundation, and each college had the opportunity to introduce themselves and their institution’s OER projects briefly. We were also joined by representatives from two of the four US Department of Education Open Textbook Pilot grantees to give overviews of their programs: West Hills College Lemoore, lead for California Consortium: Equitable Change for Hispanic Serving Institutions (CC ECHO) program, and Raritan Valley College, New Jersey Open Textbook Collaborative Project. College of the Canyons and CCCOER also gave an update on the Open for Antiracism (OFAR) grant project.

Dec 3, 2020 – 4th Annual CCCOER Members Mixer

Sept 30, 2020 – U.S. Dept of Education Open Textbook Pilot (OTP) Info Session

This special members’-only meeting was an informal information and discussion session on the 2020 U.S. Open Textbook Pilot Grant. This year, the Department of Education has indicated a willingness to offer smaller grants than in previous years so it opens up the opportunity to smaller groups of institutions.

We discussed the 2020 requirements, answered questions, and shared knowledge around what it takes to apply and also to run a grant program like this. Applications are due Nov 16.

We were joined by Kim Ernstmeyer, Open RN Grant Project Director and Former Nursing Program Director at Chippewa Valley Technical College, in Wisconson, who discussed her experiences working on the Open RN project which is funded by a $2.5 million dollar grant from the Department of Education to create 5 OER Nursing Textbooks with 25 associated Virtual Reality scenarios.

Quarterly All Members’ Meeting, September 1, 2020

The theme for the first quarterly members’ meeting of 2020/2021 was “Opportunities for Open”.  CCCOER executive council co-presidents Lisa Young and Sue Tashjian lead us in sharing opportunities that the pandemic and acknowledgement of systemic racism has created for open educational practices and resources to improve our institutions and students’ lives.  Each member was invited to share a minute-long update for their college on these topics.

We also welcomed our newest member from Angelina College in Texas and gave updates on fall conferences, Regional Leadership in Open Education, our EDI committee work, and more.

Quarterly All Members’ Meeting, June 16, 2020

The main focus of this meeting was to share the results of the 2020 annual member survey. CCCOER also reconfirmed our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and asked for volunteers for our new EDI committee. We were also joined by Paul Stacey, Executive Director of OEGlobal who gave us updates on the 2020 Open Education Awards, the OEGlobal 2020 virtual conference, and OEG Connect, an online community space where the global open education community can engage in meaningful and respectful dialogue about all matters pertaining to open education.

Quarterly All Members’ Meeting, April 2, 2020

In the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic, colleges have been scrambling to move courses online as campuses close. In this meeting, CCCOER members shared their Extraordinary Stories of the work that their campuses have done to pivot to online. Also, attendees discussed the challenges and successes that they have had during this shift.

2nd Annual New Member Mixer, December 12, 2018

This meeting was an opportunity for CCCOER members to share updates and discuss potential collaborative projects.

All Members meeting June 14th, 11 am PT / 2 pm ET.

In this semi-annual meeting, our main topic was the results of the annual CCCOER member survey. This survey lets us check in with our members and see how we can better help them for the 2018-19 school year. We also welcomed our 17 new members, did an end-of-year wrap up of 2017-18, and discussing the Open Ed Global 2018 conference in Delft, Netherlands.

All Members meeting March 21st, 2018

In this meeting, we met the new executive director of the Open Education Consortium, Paul Stacey. Paul joins OEC after five years as Associate Director of Global Learning for Creative Commons where he helped creators, faculty, students, librarians and the public generate a global public commons of knowledge and culture. Paul has extensive experience leading Open Educational Resource initiatives in Canada, USA, the Middle East / North Africa and around the world. Prior to Creative Commons Paul helped found BCcampus in 2003 and led its open education initiative for nine years.

We also discussed OEC news and Preston Davis’s candidacy for OEC board member. And lastly, we discussed the CARE (Contribute, Attribute, Release, and Empower) Framework for OER Stewardship. The framework is described in a new paper entitled, “Toward a Sustainable OER Ecosystem: The Case for OER Stewardship.”

New Member Mixer December 13th, 2017

New CCCOER members were asked to share their current OER projects and long-term plans and goals. After that, all CCCOER members were invited to join in a discussion of SPARC’s OER Mythbusting document which discusses the top seven OER myths in North American higher education.
