Have you ever found yourself inspired by the equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) open resources discussed at a webinar or conference, only to misplace or lose track of them later? This dilemma sparked an idea to develop a crowd-sourced list of open and freely available resources that advance EDI in teaching and learning through open educational resources (OER) and open education practices (OEP).
How it Started
The CCCOER EDI Committee initiated the EDI Resources Curation Project at OpenEd 2023 during its presentation titled “Where’s the good stuff? Exploring & curating EDI tools and resources for OER.” The committee was unprepared for the high level of interest with over a hundred attendees, and the online tool designed for collaborative curation froze as we exceeded the maximum number of concurrent editors. Despite the technical issues, a preliminary list was created, and a community project was launched!
Where Do We Go From Here?
Since the November 2023 session, the EDI Committee has discussed the next steps for the project. The committee will continue to develop this resource and share updates with the OE community in 2024. We will offer additional opportunities for the Open Education community to take part. This includes suggesting resources for the list, resource organization, and identifying a suitable platform for hosting the resources. The committee welcomes participation by the community in developing this resource to ensure that the curated resources are relevant to open practitioners and advocates, diverse in their representation of communities and perspectives, and developed according to the community’s input.
We Want Your Input
The EDI Resources List is open for viewing but is still under development. Currently, there are over 80 resources listed. Stay tuned for announcements regarding future opportunities to contribute and curate resources. In the interim, you can contribute resources using this online form. Please contact committee Co-VPs Andrea Scott or Wayde Oshiro. if you are interested in actively developing this resource and contributing to the overall goal of making higher education more equitable.
