At the direction of the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB), the Office of Community College Research and Leadership (OCCRL) at the University of Illinois undertook a research project to explore how Open Educational Resources (OER) are used across Illinois community colleges. This project began with an environmental scan, which served as a primer on OER’s potential benefits, challenges, as well as its use in Career and Technical Education (CTE) fields. Building on this foundation, OCCRL conducted a study to better understand OER’s role in fostering educational equity, drawing insights from community college librarians and others closely involved in OER initiatives.
In this webinar, Senior Research Assistant Nina Owolabi and Research Assistant Aidana Sirgebayeva will share findings from their research, including patterns in OER adoption, equity implications, and opportunities for further collaboration. The discussion will highlight:
- How community college librarians perceive and implement OER
- Opportunities for student engagement, including recent collaboration with Student Trustees
- Broader equity questions raised through OCCRL’s research and public engagement efforts
Attendees can expect to gain a deeper understanding of OER’s use among Illinois community colleges, hear actionable takeaways from the study, and engage in collaborative dialogue about the future of OER research and practice.
